Which of the following mistakes are you making during your job search?

It’s very easy to panic when looking for work and particularly when you don’t seem to be getting anywhere with the endless job applications; it is therefore quite easy to make mistakes without realising that you are sabotaging your chances of success in securing that role that you so wish to be offered.

The key is to stay calm (admittedly easier said than done!) but by focusing on maintaining an equilibrium between job searching and enjoying fresh air and hobby interests you will find it easier to remain calm and collected.
Here are a number of things you should never do when you are job searching:

• Set your job search targets lower than they should be without testing the water first

• Apply for every job advert that you see that you are the slightest bit qualified to do

• Waste time throwing your applications at automated recruiting portals

• Grovel at the interview

• Take a lousy job offer so you can say you have a job

• Fail to negotiate a job offer when it does need to be negotiated

• Use clichéd comments in your CV e.g. motivated and responsible individual with excellent communication skills

Don’t let your fear overwhelm your job search!
