In my last two Blogs I have been focusing on the unadvertised job market. Last week I explained how to make a Speculative phone call but if you are not too comfortable in contacting Companies directly by phone then you may prefer a ‘softer’ approach!

I have outlined below 7 steps to enable you to produce a Speculative Letter:

1) Identify, research and write to organisations that are likely to use your skills.

2) Where possible write to a named person in a specific department that you think would use your skills, e.g. Engineering Department, Finance Department.

3) Explain in your letter why you are contacting them.

4) Ensure that you letter conveys enthusiasm and sounds positive.

5) Enclose your CV and use your letter to highlight your selling points.

6) End your letter by requesting a meeting where you can discuss your skills, knowledge and experience and how you may be able to add value to their Company.

7) Contact the person you have written your letter to in 7-10 days if you have not heard from them.

In the meantime if you would like to discuss any aspect of your job search with me then do give me a call on 07875 320793
